Quick Overview of Harvest

We are about a month into harvest and going strong, although last night's rain will slow everything down today. In about a month, harvest should be complete! Here are a few quick pictures of what harvest entails:

Here is my farmer combining the soybeans.  He uses a 40 foot bean head and drives at an average of 4 mph. Notice what a dusty job this is?

Stop to unload the soybeans? Who has time for that? A tractor pulling a grain cart drives alongside the combine to "unload on the go!" When the grain cart is full, the soybean get dumped in the semi and trucked away!

To keep everything flowing smoothly, we have several semis working during harvest to haul the grain to the grain dryers to dry or to various ports.  Since we live close to the Ohio River, we truck most of our grain to Owensboro, KY or Evansville, IN.  Last night's soybeans went from the field straight to Owensboro!
