Tractors, Combines, and....Helicopters?

When you think of farming equipment, you probably think of tractors and combines. Maybe even some other commonly used heavy equipment such as excavators and semis. But helicopters? Most people don’t associate helicopters with farming. However, helicopters are used quite often in modern farming practices.

Earlier in the season, we used helicopters to spray fungicide on the crops. Now, as we are getting into harvest, we are using helicopters to plant cover crops. The cover crop mixes we plant are tillage radish & crimson clover, tillage radish & oats, and dwarf rape & crimson clover. These cover crops have many benefits. They increase soil health, control erosion, prevent nutrient runoff, and help to increase overall yields. Helicopters are the perfect way to plant these seeds. They don’t disturb the already planted corn and they are a quick way to cover a lot of ground.

Roesner Farms will definitely be using helicopters again in the future, but, unfortunately, I’m told we will not be adding one to the fleet. Oh well...I tried:).
